10 Documentary Projects Selected for IFP Labs

Short Film News (SFN) - Ten new documentaries at the rough cut stage have been selected to participate in IFP's prestigious Independent Filmmaker Lab taking place this week. The Labs are free mentorship program for low-budget first feature films which have shot all or a substantial amount of footage for their features but have not completed post-production. The goal of the program is to connect mentors with projects before they are submitted to festivals.

Short Film News (SFN) - Sundance Institute and Skoll Foundation announced the final five grant recipients of the Stories of Change: Social Entrepreneurship in Focus Through Documentary initiative. The announcement, which includes a film about Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, was made at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship, the premier annual conference that brings together the world's foremost practitioners and leaders in the field.

Short Film News (SFN) - James Marsh's Man on Wire and Ari Folman's Waltz With Bashir won several prizes at the 2nd Cinema Eye Awards, honoring outstanding achievement in documentary filmmaking. Marsh's film won the Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking prize and the production and editing prizes, while Waltz With Bashir won four awards including achievement in directing, music, graphic design and animation, and best international feature.

One World's Top Prize Went to Italian Doc

Short Film News (SFN) - Gianfranco Rosi's documentary Below Sea Level won the main competition prize of the 11th One World Human Rights Film Festival in Prague. Rosi's film, which has won Cinema du Reel and Venice Festival's Horizons Awards, is about US/Mexican border life, and he received his prize from Czech Minister of Culture Vaclav Jehlicka.
