
Short Film News (SFN) - 171 films from 39 countries is going to be shown at the 16th Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, which runs April 30-May 10 in Toronto.
The festival will screen films in 10 competitive, thematic and special programs and 36 of these docs will be receiving their world premieres.
International Spectrum, festival's competitive program of works from around the world presents 30 films, which among them are two Iranian documentaries: Final Fitting by Reza Haeri and Tinar by Mahdi Moniri.
In the competitive Canadian Spectrum program, 24 films will be shown and10 feature-length documentary will be receiving their world premieres.
Other programs at this year's Festival include: World Showcase, a popular survey of compelling docs from around the globe; Made in South Korea, a revealing look at new work from this burgeoning doc centre; Next, that explores creativity in the performing and visual arts.; Let’s Make Money, a look at the need and greed surrounding money.
Additionally, Hot Docs will present three retrospective programs: Focus on Ron Mann, a retrospective of the Toronto documentarian; the Outstanding Achievement Award Retrospective, honoring the work of Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin; and the Spotlight on the NFB at 70, which features seminal National Film Board titles.
