Iran with 7 Representatives in IDFA

Short Film News (SFN)- The selected films for the 21st edition of International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) are announced and Iran by having 7 representatives is going to  participate in this event.

The festival is going to take place from 20th till 30th November and more than 300 films are going to be screened in 5 competition and non-competition sections of it.

Competitions:
In Joris Ivens Competition which is specified for feature-length documentaries 16 documentaries are competing.

Some famous documentarists such as Kim Longinptto from England and Nikolaus Geyhalter from Austria are going to participate in this competition with their new works.

The Queen and I by Nahid Presson, the originally Iranian filmmaker who is living in Europe, is a co-product of 5 countries and the Iran representative in this section.

15 documentaries are participating in Silver Wolf Competition that is for mid-length (shorter than 60 minutes) documentaries.

Iran representative in this section is Countdown by Khatereh Hanachi.

My City, Pizza by Ala Mohseni is the work from Iran which compete with 15 other works in Silver Cub Competition that is for short documentaries

Also, in the International Student Competition 15 films will compete one of which is Cyanosis by Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami.

The other section of competition is First Appearance Competition for debut of Second Documentary in which 15 films are going to participate.

Non Competitive Programs:
One of the most important sections among non competitive programs is Reflecting Images – Panorama in which 30 works are going to be screened among which 3 are Iranian.

444 Days by Mohammad Shirvani, Orange Bombs by Majed Neisi, and A Paople in the Shadows by Bani Khoshnoudi are the 3 Iranian documentaries in this section.

In Reflecting Images – Best of Fests 15 documentaries that have recently made an impact at international festivals will be shown.

All Together Now by Adrian Wills, Below Sea Level by Gianfranco Rosi, Citizen Havel by Miroslav Janek and Pavel Koutecky, The English Surgeon by Geoffrey Smith, I.O.U.S.A. by Patrick Creadon, Pray the Devil Back to Hell by Gini Reticker, and Valentino: The Last Emperor are the most important films in this section.

ParaDocs is another section in the program which showcases what is going on beyond the frame of traditional documentary filmmaking. 24 films are going to be shown in this section among which is 12 Days of Waiting by Atousa Bandeh Ghiasabadi from Iran.

In Reflecting Images- Masters films by Emir Kusturica, Errol Morris, Peter Greenaway, Avi Magrabi, etc are going to be screened.

Kids & Docs, India- East Side Stories, Premiers from Lowlands, Documentary Workshop, Nikolaus Geyrhalte's Top 10, and Retrospective of Frans Bromet are the other sections in Non Competitive Program.
