Short Film News - The Canadian Film Centre's Worldwide Short Film Festival presented 10 awards and over $125, 000 in cash and prizes to this year's top filmmakers at its 2006 edition. Offering one of the largest prize packages for short films in the world, the WSFF honoured this year's exceptional creators in the presence of over 300 industry delegates and filmmakers from around the globe.
Short Film News- The award winners of the 22nd Hamburg International Short Film Festival are announced. Werkleitz-Award and ZDFdokukanal-Award are the two new prizes added to the festival this year. Overall, 14 awards worth in total almost 30,000 Euros were assigned for outstanding short film productions from all over the world.
French star Catherine Deneuve, named best actress at 1998's Venice International Film Festival, will head the main competition jury at the 63rd edition of the event, organizers said on Wednesday. Christmas Wish List by Sean Overbeeke won the top prize in the narrative category and Carrie Lozano's Reporter Zero was the gold medal winner in the documentary category. Also, Elalini by Tristan Holmes' from South Africa was the Honorary Foreign Film Winner, chosen from a pool of 29 submissions from 22 countries.

The 13-part, half-hour showcase features the best short films in the world. Past seasons have included works from L.A. to Tehran and from NYC to Beijing.
Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) announced a new segment that will allow filmmakers to compete for jury prizes. Providing details of the competition categories and submission dates, Neil Stephenson, CEO, Dubai International Film Festival said, "DIFF's decision to add a competitive component is part of the Festival's strategy to evolve into an important destination for creative excellence in Arab cinema."

Short Film News - The Wind That Shakes The Barley by British director Ken Loach has won the Palme d'Or at the 59th Cannes film festival. The movie, a moving drama about Ireland's early struggle for independence, beat 19 others to the prize.
