IDFA 2008 Revealed Nominations

Short Film News (SFN) - The 21st International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam - IDFA 2008 announced nominations in various competition programs.

The nominations for the Joris Ivens Competition are Burma VJ - Reporting from a Closed Country by Anders Ostergaard, Necrobusiness by Fredrik von Krusenstjerna, Richard Solarz and Monika Sieradzka, and Yodok Stories by Andrzej Fidyk.

VPRO Joris Ivens Award consists of a sculpture and a cash prize of €12,500.

Silver Wolf Competition's nominees are Boris Ryzhy by Aliona van der Horst, Lady Kul el Arab by Ibtisam Mara'ana and Love on Delivery by Janus Metz.

The Silver Wolf consists of a cash prize of € 10,000 and purchase and broadcast of the film by the NPS.

The nominations for the Silver Cub, for films up to 30 minutes, are Slaves - An Animated Documentary by Hanna Heilborn and David Aronowitsch, The First Kid to Learn English by Peter Jordan and Wanja by Angie Abdilla.

The Silver Cub consists of a cash prize of € 5,000.

The jury of the First Appearance program has nominated Afghan Star by Havana Marking, Constantin and Elena by Andrei Dascalescu and My First War by Yariv Mozer for the First Appearance Award, the award for the best first or second film.

12 Notes Down by Andreas Koefoed, Shakespeare and Victor Hugo's Intimacies by Yulene Olaizola, and Waiting for Women by Estephan Wagner are the International Student Competition's nominations.

The jury of the Movies that Matter Award, for the best documentary dealing with human rights and human dignity, has announced four nominations, namely: At the Death House Door by Steve James and Peter Gilbert, Burma VJ - Reporting From a Closed Country by Anders Ostergaard, Iseta Behind the Roadblock by Juan Reina and Lucanamarca by Carlos Cardenas Tovar and Hector Galvez.

The nominations for DOC U! Award are A Complete History of My Sexual Failures by Chris Waitt, Kassim the Dream by Kief Davidson and Slingshot Hip Hop by Jackie Reem Salloum.

The winners will be announced on Saturday evening at the closing ceremony of the 21st IDFA in Pakhuis de Zwijger, when the Dioraphte Audience Award will also be announced, as will the winner of the IDFA Documentary Workshop.
