Cinema Eye Nods "Bashir", "Winnipeg" and "Wire"

Short Film News (SFN) - Ari Folman's documentary animated film Waltz with Bashir lead the nominations of 2009 Cinema Eye Honors which recognizing outstanding artistic achievements in nonfiction filmmaking.

The nominees were unveiled Monday, January 19 in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival. "Bashir" received 7 nominations, including nods for Director, Producer, Editor, Music, Animation, International Film and the top prize, Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking.

Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg received six nominations, while James Marsh's Man on Wire had five. Also, Margaret Brown's The Order of Myths received four nominations.

Marina Zenovich's Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired are also in contention for the top award.

Werner Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World received four nominations and joins Folman, Marsh, Maddin and Brown in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Direction.

Among the five films nominated for the top prize, only one -Man on Wire- is on the Oscar shortlist for Best Feature Documentary. Waltz with Bashir is on the Oscar shortlist in the Foreign Language Category.
