In addition to reducing the number of the selected projects from 35 projects last year to 30 this year, the selections mostly were among the Asian co-productions.
The selections include only two projects from outside Asia, Crawling at Night from the U.S. and Stranger from U.K., though both have Asian connections.
Nobuhiro brothers from Japan, Zhang Yuan, Cai Shangjun and Zhu Wen from China, Chang Tso Chi from Taiwan, Viet Linh Nguyen from Vietnam and Lee Chang-dong and Zhang Lu from Korea are among the filmmakers selected for the program.
Hekmat's documentary, which is going to take the chance of getting the grant and having the international release, has finished its shooting in Iran and Afghanistan and is in Tajikistan.
