More Than a Game

SILVERDOCS Announces Opening and Closing Films

Short Film News (SFN) - The 7th SILVERDOCS Documentary Festival will open with More Than a Game directed by Kristopher Belman, and will close with the World Premiere of The Nine Lives of Marion Barry directed by Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer.

More Than a Game directed by Kristopher Belman, follows the careers of five talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio, including future NBA superstar LeBron James.

Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer's The Nine Lives of Marion Barry is the story of the philandering, drug-using mayor of the nation’s capital, who was famously caught in a 1990 FBI sting operation yet whose impressive career accomplishments have also made him a hero to many.

SILVERDOCS also will honor Albert Maysles at the Charles Guggenheim Symposium.

Maysles has directed over 35 films and was the cinematographer on 64, and as part of the Symposium, SILVERDOCS will screen a series of excerpts from Maysles' documentary work.

Following the screening, Maysles will be joined by special guests to engage in a discussion of his career, including Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Barbara Kopple and other special guests.
