
Short Film News (SFN) -American film, Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai by Lisa Merton and Alan Dater won the Hot Docs Audience Award.
The film tells story of Kenyan Nobel laureate whose simple act of planting trees inspired his country's environmental movement, protected the human rights of its people and defended the nation's democracy.
Also, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Prize for best Canadian documentary on international development was awarded to Shock Waves by Pierre Mignault and Helene Magny for its courageous portrayal of a country and its people.
The Audience Award and the CIDA Award were named at the close of the Hot Docs, in addition to the awards announced at the Awards Presentation on Friday, April 25.
15th Hot Docs international documentary film festival was held April 17 - 27 in Toronto, Canada.
