
Short Film News- The Toronto International Film Festival launches a set of new resources for documentary filmmakers and industry delegates attending the Festival.
Doc Corner, a brand new initiative this year, serves as a place for documentary filmmakers to network with their peers, and is open to all industry delegates, press and filmmakers attending the Festival. Open during the entire period of the Festival, from September 7-16, Doc Corner will be located at the Sales and Industry Parkette in Yorkville Village.
Also new this year is Doc Talks; a series of panel discussions led by experts in the field of documentary filmmaking, and are open to documentary filmmakers and industry delegates. Doc Talks takes place on September 12.
"We are absolutely thrilled to offer these new initiatives specifically tailored to documentary filmmakers," said Thom Powers, international documentary programmer.
"It is our sincere intent to make the Toronto International Film Festival an important destination for documentary filmmakers from around the world. The stimulating panel discussions we're presenting on September 11 and 12 will be of great interest to anyone interested in the genre," he added.

A documentary as a gala
Dixie Chicks - Shut Up and Sing, a documentary from two-time Oscar-winning director Barbara Kopple (Harlan County USA, American Dream) and director Cecilia Peck will be screened as a Gala Presentation at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival.
It is the first time in 14 years that Toronto Film Festival has screened a documentary as a gala.
