Short Film News (SFN) - Danish documentary producer Mikael Opstrup was elected as the new chairman of the European Documentary Network (EDN), while at the same time a new executive committee was elected.

Opstrup has been a member of the committee for three years, where he among other things has contributed to outlining a survey on the status of the European documentary industry. He is producer at Final Cut Productions in Copenhagen.

EDN has more than 1,000 filmmakers from 60 countries and at the General Assembly the members also elected new members for the Executive Committee.

Four of the seven seats of the committee were up for election. Among the candidates Alexandre Cornu from France, Sergio Tréfaut from Portugal, Joan Gonzalez from Spain, and C. Cay Wesnigk from Germany were elected for a two year period:

EDN provides advice on documentary projects, organizes workshops, seminars and conferences, and publishes the Dox magazine and the EDN Financing Guide.
