Amsterdam announces opening film

Short Film News (SFN)- War Games by Polish director Dariusz Jablonski will open Amsterdam's Documentary Film Festival on Nov. 19.

The film tells the story of Ryszard Kuklinski, a Polish colonel who during the Cold War passed on more than forty thousand strategic documents concerning the Warsaw Pact to the American CIA.

Dariusz Jablonski, who previously won a Joris Ivens Award for Fotoamator (1998), pitched the idea for the film at the Forum in 1998.

The documentary will have its world premiere at the upcoming IDFA and is competing in the IDFA Competition for Feature-Length Documentary.

The 22nd IDFA runs until 29 November, on and around the Rembrandtplein square in Amsterdam.
