Jaipur Fest Awards Announced

Short Film News (SFN)- The winners of the 2nd Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) were announced.

Best short film award was conferred on Ms Herve Demers of Canada  for his 15 minutes film  Le Grand Sault , the Best Sound category award was given to Rainer Strecker of Germany for the film Amfuem.

Whereas Best Script and Best Editing awards were separately conferred to Spain's  Mario de la Torre for the film La Condena (Sentence), and Jesus Perez-Miranda for the film Dear Child Jesus.

Best Critic Award was conferred to USA's young film maker of New York Film Academy Naman Goyal for his short fiction film An Affair With New York.

Portugal's Curtas and Longas' movie Pago Para Ver (pay per view) was conferred the Special Jury Mention (foreign category) award. None of them was present to receive the awards presented by the Rajasthan Government's senior Principal Secretary of GAD department Mr Rakesh Verma.    

On Indian front, Tamil Nadu's young director Mr S. Prince Ennnares (rpt Ennnares) Periyar's film Thira (open it) on Gujarat's communal riots and mass gang rape by hindu fundatmentalists, and Anurag Sharma's film It can't be red based on Jaipur serial bomb blasts were given away the Special Jury Mention and Special Jury Award respectively.

The Best Director award was received by Vinoo Choliparambil for his short fiction film vitthal, while Ravi Williams and Roshani Bhati got the best documentary award for their film Lamsena, a love story of tribe baiga.

Best Cinematography award was conferred to Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni for his short fiction Gaarud (bird).

Best Film Rajasthan was given away to Jal Chitran of Jal Bhagirathi Foundation for a documentary Mandli ke badte kadam. Most of the Indian winners received their awards at the function.

A trophy and citation would be sent by courier to those specially foreign winners, Hanu Roj, JIFF Director, told the audience.

An Iranian movie solitude  was shown on the concluding award ceremony. The animation film showed: a stone colossus has lived a lonely life on his barren planet for thousands of years. Worn out by his solitude, he decides to change his fate. The blend of animation, sound and camera effects enthralled the audience.

2nd Jaipur International Film Festival took place 29 -31 January 2010 in the pink city, Jaipur and SFN was news sponsor.
