Alessio Cavallaro (Australia), Shai Heredia (India), Mihnea Mircan (Rumania), Keith Sanborn (USA), and Zelimir Zilnik (Serbia) are international competition jury members.

5,840 works from 87 countries were submitted this year for Oberhausen festival - some 650 fewer productions than in 2007, because of restrictions in new submission rules.

"Our new entry conditions have helped us here. With last year's record we had more than reached the limits of our capacity. We are proud that Oberhausen remains as attractive as ever for filmmakers all over the world, but now the number of entries is once again in a range we are able to handle, without any noticeable loss of quality", said Lars Henrik Gass, festival director.
