Short Film News (SFN) - David OReilly's Please Say Something won the Golden Bear for best short film at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival.
The Irish film is the story of a difficult relationship between a very emotional cat and her husband, a mouse.
The International Short Film Jury described Please Say Something "A film which gave us lots of emotion, sensitivity and much to think about. A very humane story. With characters who made us laugh and feel sad at the same time."
Also the Silver Bear went to Daniel Elliott's Jade, which the jury called "a subtle story which captured us from its innocent beginning till its open end."
The Illusion by Susana Barriga from Cuba won DAAD Short Film Prize and German director Lola Randl's Die Leiden des Herrn Karpf. Der Geburtstag named Berlinale Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards 2009.
Two special mentions went to Leila Albayaty's VU and Christoph Girardet and Matthias Muller's contre-jour.
This year, Khavn de la Cruz (Philippines), Arta Dobroshi (Kosovo) and Lars Henrik Gass (Germany) were the The International Short Film Jury members.
